What is the European Inventory on Human Biomonitoring Activities (EIHBA)? Why do we need it?
The European Environment and Health Strategy adopted by the European Commission in 2003 (COM (2003) 338 final) presented a new vision on how to address environment and health in an integrated way and put health in the centre of environmental policy.
Action 3 of the Environment and Health Action Plan 2004 - 2010, adopted by the European Commission in 2004 (COM (2004) 416 final, volume I, COM (2004) 416 final, volume II), announced the development of a coherent approach to Human Biomonitoring (HBM) in Europe, in close cooperation with the Member States.
Because you are or have been actively involved in the field of "biomonitoring" in your country/institution, we would appreciate if you could help us in gathering this information. Therefore, may we kindly invite you to complete, the EIHBA Form for each of your ongoing or finished (last ten years) HBM activities.
You are also kindly invited to forward the link of this form (http://www.hbm-inventory.org) to all persons/institutions that you know are active in the field of "biomonitoring" in Europe.
To finalize we would like to emphasize that your participation will be extremely useful to the present European effort to develop a coordinated approach for human biomonitoring in Europe, inline with Action 3 of the EU Environment and Health Action Plan.
Moreover, after implementation of specific statistical tools, we will offer you, as EIHBA respondent, the possibility of online access to data analysis of EIHBA database, according to your access profile (to be defined).
